The short answer

Every app here has a real free tier, but they draw the line in different places. Steer Astro is free with unlimited questions — it runs inside ChatGPT, so the AI reasoning happens in your own ChatGPT account and Steer only supplies the astronomical calculations, which is how it stays free. KundliGPT gives 3 free questions a day. Om.AI starts you with 1 free question. Co-Star's daily horoscope is free and its "Void" chat includes 3 free questions. AstroSage's free Kundli tools are genuinely deep (with ads), while its AI chat bills per minute from a wallet after a free first chat. The Pattern's daily updates are free; its AI conversations and full library sit behind a subscription.

About each app

Steer Astro

Steer Astro is a free AI astrology app inside the ChatGPT Apps directory. It computes your Vedic birth chart (the Rasi/D1 and Navamsa/D9), your current Vimshottari Dasha periods, today's planetary transits read against your own chart, and the daily Panchang — all with the Swiss Ephemeris engine on NASA JPL DE431 data, using the sidereal zodiac with Lahiri ayanamsa. You enter your birth details once; it saves them and reuses them across conversations. There is no question limit, no wallet, no ads, and no paid tier: because it runs inside ChatGPT, the AI reasoning happens on whatever model your own ChatGPT account uses, and Steer supplies only the calculations. Free web tools — a birth chart generator, kundli matching, and daily panchang — run on steer.coach without ChatGPT.

KundliGPT

KundliGPT (kundligpt.com) is a web-based AI astrology chatbot created in 2023, which went viral at launch and has since been rebuilt into a fuller product. It advertises both Vedic and Western charts, Vimshottari dasha, panchang, kundli matching, and dosha checks, and says it uses the Swiss Ephemeris. Guests get 3 free questions per day with no signup; signing up adds a small coin bonus, and the Pro plan ($7.99/month or $71.88/year) unlocks longer answers, family profiles, and permanent chat history. It answers in 15 languages. Note that several look-alike sites and GPT-store listings use the KundliGPT name; kundligpt.com is the original.

AstroSage

AstroSage is one of India's largest astrology platforms; its "AstroSage Kundli: AI Astrology" app has 50M+ downloads on Google Play (4.6★). Its free tier is the deepest of any app here for raw calculations: full Kundli generation, horoscope matching, panchang, and dasha tables at no cost, supported by ads. The AI side — "AstroSage AI," launched in 2024, with chat personas like AstroGPT — is billed per minute from a prepaid wallet (AstroGPT was listed at ₹22/min in July 2026, with the first chat free), alongside per-minute human astrologer consultations and paid PDF reports. It supports multiple ayanamsa options (Lahiri, Raman, KP) and calculation systems.

Om.AI

Om.AI (omai.app) is a newer Vedic AI astrology app for iOS, Android, and web, built by an independent developer in India. It uses the sidereal zodiac with Lahiri ayanamsa and covers birth chart (D1 and D9), Vimshottari dasha, Ashtakavarga, yogas and doshas, transits, panchang, and Gun Milan matching. The free tier starts at 1 free question, with more earned through daily-streak milestones; Premium (priced in-app, with question packs from $2.99) unlocks extended chat and forecasts. The developer has confirmed in a Google Play review reply that Premium chat has a usage cap to keep the service sustainable, so treat "unlimited" as high-but-capped. Its privacy policy states that chat messages are processed by third-party AI providers.

Co-Star

Co-Star is the best-known Western astrology app in the US (App Store 4.8★ with 205K+ ratings). It uses the tropical zodiac — so your sign there may differ from your Vedic sign — with NASA JPL planetary data and Porphyry houses by default. The free tier includes the famous daily personalized horoscope, push notifications, and friend compatibility. Its AI chat, "Ask the stars" (the Void), includes 3 free questions, then credit packs from $2.99; deeper readings are one-off purchases ($6.99–$11.99) and the Pro-Star subscription is $8.99/month. Its daily text is written by human astrologers and assembled algorithmically, which gives it a distinctive voice.

The Pattern

The Pattern presents Western astrology with the jargon deliberately hidden — no signs, houses, or glyphs on screen, just plain-language "patterns" about you and your relationships, computed with the Whole House system. Daily updates and basic compatibility ("Bonds") are free. Its AI conversation feature, "In-Depth," is free to try, with unlimited conversations tied to the Go Deeper+ subscription ($14.99/month or $83.99/year); the company says the AI runs on its own infrastructure trained on its human-written interpretations. If you want to see your actual chart wheel, degrees, or Vedic calculations, this isn't the app for that — by design.

Vedic or Western? Check before you compare readings

The single biggest source of confusion when trying these apps side by side: they don't all use the same zodiac. Steer Astro, AstroSage, and Om.AI use Vedic (sidereal) astrology, measured against the fixed stars; Co-Star and The Pattern use Western (tropical) astrology, measured from the equinoxes; KundliGPT advertises both. The two zodiacs currently differ by roughly 24 degrees, so the same birth can get a different sun sign, moon sign, and rising sign in each system. Neither is a bug — they are different, internally consistent conventions. If you were told your rashi by a family astrologer or a panchang, that's the sidereal (Vedic) convention. Our guide to sidereal vs tropical zodiacs explains the difference.

A note on your birth data

Every one of these apps needs your exact birth date, time, and place — sensitive data worth checking before you hand it over.
