Vedic astrology maps life in planetary phases spanning years, not only single days. The Steer app shows you where you are in that arc, what's coming next, and how to plan the big decisions with real foresight.
120 years, nine planets,
one continuous arc

Vimshottari Dasha — described in the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and expanded in the Phaladeepika — divides the 120-year human life cycle among nine planets in a fixed sequence. Each planet rules a major period (Mahadasha) of different lengths: the Sun's period lasts 6 years, Venus's lasts 20, Saturn's 19. Within each Mahadasha, sub-periods (Antardasha) divide the time further among all nine planets again. The Steer app maps this full four-level hierarchy for your chart.
What this period
means for you

Knowing which dasha you're in is only the start. The app shows what the current combination of Mahadasha and Antardasha lords means specifically for your chart — where those planets sit, which houses they rule, how strong they are. Then it maps that to five life areas so you know where energy is concentrated right now.
Plan major decisions
around favorable periods

The most common question a Vedic astrologer gets is: when? When is a good time to change jobs, to marry, to start a business, to have a child? The Steer app shows you the upcoming periods in your dasha sequence and flags which ones are likely strong for each life area — so you can align the timing of big choices with the periods that support them.
The 120-year sequence
Each planet rules a major period of different length. The sequence is fixed; your starting point is determined by the Moon's nakshatra position at your birth.
Sun — 6 years
Authority, identity, government, career in the spotlight. A period that asks who you are when standing in your own light.
Moon — 10 years
Emotions, home, mother, mind, the public. Often brings significant shifts in living situation and relationships close to home.
Mars — 7 years
Energy, siblings, property, action, conflict. Periods where decisions get made quickly and disputes may surface.
Rahu — 18 years
Obsession, foreign connections, unconventional paths, rapid worldly advancement. One of the longest and most disruptive periods.
Jupiter — 16 years
Expansion, children, teaching, wisdom, religion, wealth. Generally considered a benefic dasha, though chart placement refines this.
Saturn — 19 years
Discipline, delays, karma, profession through effort, service. The longest single-planet period. Patient work during this period tends to compound.
Mercury — 17 years
Communication, business, education, analysis, trade. Periods that favor writing, learning, networks, and nuanced negotiations.
Ketu — 7 years
Spirituality, past-life karma, detachment, isolation, moksha. A period of turning inward and releasing attachments.
Venus — 20 years
Love, marriage, luxury, arts, pleasures, creative wealth. The longest dasha in the cycle and a powerful period for relationships and material comforts.
